That’s what I thought. I thought I must show her how to do it, or her fear would spoil our plot. So, I kissed her again. Then I touched her. I touched her face. I began at the meeting of our mouths—at the soft wet corners of our lips—then found her jaw, her cheek, her brow—I had touched her before, to wash and dress her; but never like this. So smooth she was! So warm! It was like I was calling the heat and shape of her out of the darkness—as if the darkness was turning solid and growing quick, under my hand.

She began to shake. I supposed she was still afraid. Then I began to shake, too. I forgot to think of Gentleman, after that. I thought only of her. When her face grew wet with tears, I kissed them away.

“Baby,” Jimin says again, “baby, my baby,” and tips forward that last fraction of an inch, catching Taehyung’s mouth. Pressing into it, into him, turning the almost-kiss into something firmer but no less gentle, kissing Taehyung’s lips like he’s kissed Taehyung’s forehead, shoulders, cheeks, nose, collarbones, palms. Kneecaps, once. Elbows, once, to make Taehyung laugh when he was sobbing on the bathroom floor. Jimin kisses him and thinks blue mold, thinks calico, thinks about small candles and nameless birds, thinks about writing love letters to the moon. Thinks about honey-colored eyes. Thinks about the fact that it’s Taehyung he’s kissing. Kisses him harder.

Taehyung’s hands in his hair. Taehyung’s mouth opening under his own. It feels inevitable, but it also feels like a choice.

“Jimin, kiss me.” Right, they haven’t done that, that’s a crime. Jimin smiles, endeared, and leans in to press his lips on Taehyung’s. Taehyung cups his chin, his thumb pulls Jimin’s bottom lip. “Use your tongue.”

Jimin chuckles. “Demanding.”

Taehyung looks like he’s about to say something, but Jimin takes Taehyung’s hand and laces their fingers together, licking Taehyung’s lips with a flick of his tongue. Like a cat, Taehyung likes to say to him.

“Kitty,” he mumbles it again this time, and Jimin smiles when their lips meet.
